STUDIO BRIEF 3 EVALUATION
For studio brief 3 i decided to chose Mutton Quad one of the ISDT briefs and i decided to create a Mexican Tapas house. This was my favourite out of all three briefs i loved designing for this brief and i was really pleased with my outcomes. I decided to do a Mexican tapas house because i had named my restaurant Apex which means the highest point my restaurant would be really tall and the ceiling would go to a point the logo for my restaurant would just be the letter A and i would add an extra bar in the letter to create a tapas stand. The logo also featured a house symbol as it was called tapas house which also has a point. I really wanted my concept to link as much as possible. As it was Mexican themed i decided to go down the route of Sugar Skulls and day of the dead.
I linked this with the food i also served at my restaurant 'day of the dead grub' I took numerous books out of the library so i could get a full idea of the Mexican theme. At first i didn't want to use the cliche Mexican colours but my design didn't work until i tried them sometimes trying the cliche and obvious colour is appropriate. I was really happy with my design i struggled a little at first i had a chat with lorraine and she told me that i need to make sure what ever design decisions i make theres a reason behind it you can just have a concept for the sake so this helped me to really link my design decisions together to make a strong concept.
I think i enjoyed creating all the vinyl stickers for my accessories like for the cactus and my tapas bowls. Im most pleased with my wrapping i designed for my burrito or faiths i loved making the branding and applying it across different things such as menus , signage posters ect. I think my strengths throughout this brief would be my ability to come up with a strong Mexican identity for my restaurant i think you would be able to tell it was Mexican if you weren't to know what it was. This is important because when you design you should be designing for someone who has no idea what it is because if your design doesn't communicate it hasn't worked. Ive learnt a lot from this brief. Especially the depth of research i went into to find the inspiration i think I've learnt to focus on audience and aesthetics to make my work at the highest standard.
A weakness of mine would be trying to create a strong concept. It took me a little longer than expected but I'm really glad i achieved what i did. I personally wish we had had longer on this brief because i would of loved to do more than i did. Another point i would of to work on would be my craft abilities. I mounted all of my work using spray mount to white card i was so worried i was going to mess it up when i should of had a little bit more faith in my self because it turned out fine.
I think designing for a restaurant has definitely improved my skills in packaging design and i really want to get into that more i will apply everything i have learnt in this brief to further briefs.

Evaluation - OUGD504
EVALUATION
What skills have you developed through this module and how effectively do you think you have applied them?
I have definitely developed I wide range and understanding of different print processes. Being able to recognise what works and what doesn’t. OUGD504 has been more of a creative challenge for me as I have tried lots of different methods that have been unsuccessful as well as successful this has helped to develop my skills further to make the right design decisions. I think I applied my skills well definitely towards the end of print, once I had tried all these specific processes. I have also developed skills in Dreamweaver being able to try different methods of code to achieve the layouts and styling I needed. Further more in studio brief 3 I developed skills of distribution being able to apply my designs across many platforms.
What approaches to/methods of design production have
you developed and how have they informed your design development process?
Identify five things that you will do differently next time and what do you expect to gain from doing these?

In print methods I used for my work were laser cut,
foiling and using vinyl. I think using the laser cutter has definitely informed
my design development process a lot because I tried so many different methods
and I really enjoyed using the machine. In practicing these processes I found
the best possible methods and outcomes for my test pieces and my final pieces.
What strengths can you identify in your work and how have/will you capitalise on these?
I think I strength of mine would be concept for this module I feel as though for all 3 briefs I had a strong concept which was led from a lot of brainstorming and initial sketches and ideas. Through these thought processes I didn’t stop at one idea I kept branching. I also feel that I took on a lot of creative challenges and didn’t put them as side when I felt they wouldn’t work I stuck with them and I am really happy with my final pieces. I will defiantly continue in further briefs to branch out with initial ideas because that’s where the best concepts come from.

What weaknesses can you identify in your work and how
will you address these in the future?
A weakness of mine throughout this module would be
doubting some of my work until I had actually finished some of the pieces I was
unsure if they were going to be sufficient enough or look exactly how I wanted
them to. It’s not ideal to doubt your work because it left me feeling negative.
To change this in the next module I will create a lot of mock-ups and prototype
this will help me visualize the final pieces and give me more of a variation to
my work.
Identify five things that you will do differently next time and what do you expect to gain from doing these?
- Plan a little better so my time is used evenly between briefs. I expect better outcomes and to be less stressed.
- Not doubt my work as much because it has an effect on my performance. Feel more comfortable with my design work and be happier with my outcomes.
- Try more processes – I expect to have a high level of work and bigger variation of work.
- Make sure I will do even more thumbnails and sketches than I have now. I expect this so show my full thought process so my concepts are accurate.
- Try my work across more platforms and try different layouts to make my designs be responsive for all devices.

Photography for Design for Print
PHOTOGRAPHING MY WORK FOR DESIGN FOR PRINT:
I used the same slot i used for print & web and photographed my pack for my book also my booklets that go inside. I used the tripod method for this also and wish i had used the smaller set if i had had more time i would defiantly do that.

PHOTOGRAPHY FOR PRINT & WEB
For my print & web brief i wanted to photograph my work i booked a photography slot and took my props and my collateral and set it up. I first used a small set and focused in on my objects.
Photography took a long time and I'm quite pleased with my photos although next time i would work better with the lighting and experiment with different shots.

Finishing touches (Design for print&web)
FINISHING TOUCHES
To put my menus together i used spray mount and mounted them onto white card.
I carefuly tried to use the corners of my stock to make the most use of it and also it was easier to cut out.
I was really happy using the spray mount i was worried at first but its good using spray mount because if you make a mistake you can peel it off and stick it back down.
All my mounted menus:
The last thing i mounted was my coasters i stuck all the 4 coasters onto a piece of card and cut them out individually.
STICKING VINLY DOWN:
It found a really easy method of sticking vinyl down so it was easy to line it up. I used masking tape and a scalpel to achieve this method.
Then peeled the back off-
When the vinyl was then resting on the masking tape i then applied it centrally over my bottle and rubbed the letters off.
I repeated the same method to apply the vinyl to my bowls.
I was really pleased with this i loved the black vinyl stickers in contrast with the off white colour.
