Studio Brief 3 - Brief Workshop

BRIEF WORKSHOP

For Studio brief 3 we were asked to choose three briefs from the ISTD briefs given to us from 2009 , 2010 & 2011. I chose 5 briefs i initially thought i would like to to and then narrowed it down to 3 i picked:
  • 10 things you should know about..
  • Mutton Quad
  • Not just fleurons
The first thing we did in the session was pull apart the briefs and go through highlighting all the words that was unnecessary and weren't needed. We came across a lot of words that had been put in there to try and make the brief sound interesting but weren't really relevant. Especially the 'Not Just Fleurons' Brief it began with a quote which was used just to fill some space on the brief.

We next made lists with the categories lorraine had gave us:

5 Things i know about this subject-
  • Food
  • How companies use typography for branding
  • Branding & Packaging
  • Environment - Classy high end experience
  • Cooking.
5 Facts about the audience-
  • Celebrities
  • Wealthy people
  • 25+
  • Business men & Women
  • Middle class people who enjoy a luxury
5 things that you want to communicate through this brief-
  • Class and wealth
  • Use Typography in an innovative & Effective way
  • Information through effective branding
5 things i don't know about the subject-
  • Location
  • The company
  • The defined audience
  • The type of restaurant
  • The name
5 Problems this brief poses-
  • Not everybody eats out & Dines at restaurants
  • People don't always have disposable income
  • The Audience isn't really specific
  • They don't wan to make the restaurant 'appealing'
  • Typographic themed restaurant
5 Reasons why i want to solve the problem-
  • Possible cheaper options
  • propose a take out solution
  • Define my audience so i can make the audience appropriate for the audience
  • Appeal is personal preference so i will consider i wide range of aesthetics
  • Limited outcomes-I will research ti come up with something creative.

This exercise really helped us pick apart the brief and what it wanted. The next step was to re-write the brief we were given a sheet to make basic notes and what we would change from the original brief. This is to guide us before we actually re-write the brief in depth for the next session.

Some people changed there brief after they realised it was to difficult or maybe to boring I'm really pleased i picked the Mutton Quad brief as I'm really interesting in branding so i will make a start on as ethics research to get an idea of what i will be doing and what style of design i will be executing.
