WHO ARE YOU 11/12

Who are you?

In the session we looked at the 'Who are you' task we were asked to do, (Who are you? typed on an a4 piece of paper landscape.) we had a list of accents to use :-
  • GEORDIE
  • WELSH
  • ESSEX
  • JAMAICAN
  • YORKSHIRE
  • IRISH
  • PIRATE
  • FRENCH
  • RUSSIAN
  • SCOUSE
  • AUSTRALIAN

We sat on a different table in groups of four and we assorted the other groups 'who are you's into groups to see if we new what each one once.
This was proven difficult as due to peoples interpretations of lot of us got it wrong when trying to assort them. The hardest ones we came across were geordie and scouse because they dont have any obvious chartists from the places where as eg. france people put a script like font to show flow and elegance.

5 fundamental rules of type.
  • No more than 3 different typefaces
  • Legibility
  • Readability
  • Gothic or roman only for body copy
  • No more than 3 weights.

GEORDIE - As i come from the north east area I'm aware of the Geordie accents and slangs -  I looked at a few  tshirts and posters and also the geordie shore programme there all really loud and abrupt so i felt a large higher case spaced out font would be appropriate.

WELSH - I think because some of there words are more over the top than others i wanted it to be  large wide typeface with the O's emphasised.

ESSEX - I chose this typeface because people from essex are really over the top and glitz and glamour and this typeface has stars on the letters so i felt it was appropriate.

JAMAICAN -  This typeface is perfect because it resembles afro hair like the rasters that you would associate jamaica with.

YORKSHIRE- I chose a typeface that was scribbly and bold i then made the last two words bigger than the rest.
IRISH-I chose a celtic font because irish is celtic and is quite religious and i felt it appropriate.

PIRATE- I found this one quite difficult but i found a messy bold type that slightly overlapped to resemble pirates.
FRENCH- I find france to be romantic so i decided to chose an italic typeface.
RUSSIAN- This typeface i chose reminds me of russian constructivism so it works really well.

SCOUSE- I think people from liverpool have a really strong accent and sometimes it can be quite common so i decided to go for a playful scribble like type and made the first word larger as they emphaise there first word in some sentences.
AUSTRALIAN- I found this one the hardest to do as Australian accents change and i think there really strong. But as they do tend to drag on there words when speaking i decided to go for a tall typeface.
