An introduction to type : Part 1 OUGD404

The Anatomy of Type
What is the difference between a rule and a principle?
Rule - Can't be broken Principle - Can be explored and challenged

You would fine the following on :-
  • Stone - gravestones , walls
  • Sable - oriental , brush
  • Bone - quill
  • Wood
  • Lead - letter press
  • Silicone - digital

For a previous task we were assigned to collect 5 different typefaces from illustrator or photoshop from our uni macs, we had to print them on a4 a copy of them in lower and higher case. Me and my partner then arranged them into 5 categories.
  • serif
  • san serif
  • modern
  • traditional
  • bold

We next got our partners five fonts and used identifont.com/ and chose one to research into .

The typeface i chose of my partner was Rockwell

The Rockwell® font family is a slab serif typeface originally modeled after a 1910 font called Litho Antique™. Revived by Morris Fuller Benton in the 1920s, the font was redesigned and published in 1934 by Monotype in a project spearheaded by Frank Hinman Pierpont. rockwell-fonts.com
