The Body Shop Designs - ENDED BRIEF

BODY SHOP DESIGNS

I firstly chose the body shop brief as my main brief my first initial ideas were to began designing around the idea of positive quotes. Most makeup brands use high end models where the photographs have been edited. I decided to try and capture the ethos of the body shop by using natural beautiful models wearing little makeup and just head shots. I wanted to play on the fact of the body shops products are good for you and natural so using them will make you the best version of yourself.

(Work designed before first crit )

I placed quotes over black and white images.

I mocked up different images on stock images to see how they would look and if they created high enough impact.
I preferred this style where the text is a bit darker and around the models face.

At this stage i wasn't sure if using the models as my main concept to give the body shop a new visual language was strong enough so i decided to take a new approach and research into something slightly different with the a similar theme behind it.

(Worked designed for second crit)

The next topic i researched was the idea of mind body and soul and how i could use more powerful quotes to attract more body shop customers. The body shop uses natural products and organic so i felt that using a spiritual theme would appeal to The body shop demographic.

I used the same typeface the body shop use called 'colours of autumn' and experimented with different backgrounds to achieve a spiritual theme.

I decided i preferred just a simple text with the different colour choices for the main posters and mocked some up with stock images.

After the crit i decided i still wasn't happy with the theme of my design so i decided to look at other aesthetics rather than themes.

Final Variations -

I looked at the way type could be placed in an effective way. How titles were placed and the impact they made.

I finally created some posters with some tag lines using the first letter of the product to create them.

eg. Body butter - Brilliant ,Bold & Beautiful.

I chose to do this as i felt i would be a good representation of how the products would make you feel would.

I chose to use an off white colour for the backgrounds & i used different hues for the text of the certain shades which were on the packaging of the certain products.

At this point of the brief i decided i no longer wanted to design for it i felt it wasnt going anywhere and i had other briefs i wanted to focus on and spend more time on I'm happy with the stage i got to but felt i didn't want to waste any more time on it and chose not to develop it further.

Responsive - Interim Crit

RESPONSIVE INTERIM CRIT

We first re-touched on the previous talk before Christmas.
  • This session is not so much what you've produced its how you respond & communicate to the audience.
  • showing backup work & evidence.
  • What we look for when criting?
How well does the work presented communicate the concept/product/context?
  • Does the solution answer the brief?
  • Are the methods of distribution appropriate?
  • Is the concept clear & appropriate?
  • Have decisions been made from an informed point of view?
  • Is there a clear audience & is the solution appropriate to them?

These are the four boards i brought for the crit.

They were for concept , Research & Audience , Designs & Distribution/Range.

Feedback i received:

Its a positive message , not a guilt trip. Push ' Mind body & soul ' Re-invent yourself.

Answers to the questions in relation to crit discussions:

1. Yes its appropriate its obvious & positive design.

2. Gym good idea , maybe holland & barrat , spas or organic places.

3. Yes , obvious design quote says enough.

4. Yes cleverly thought out - Refreshing

Studio brief 3 - Final crit

STUDIO BRIEF 3

We had crits for studio brief 3 these crits weren't so much for what we could change more if there was anything we could improve and just generally to show everyone our work were we were and explain our idea.

We were in groups of about 6 and went around and presented our work the person to the left of you took notes on a peer feedback sheet in the appropriate categories - strengths , areas for improvement , considerations & additional comments there was also a section for an action plan this is helpful for people so they know what they have to do next.

I presented these four boards which were for concept , research , brand & identity. These briefly explained my ideas thought process and outcome.

I received some really good feedback people in my group said they liked my concept and that it was strong. I was also given some considerations.

Strengths: Consider a wide variety of materials , good!

Considerations:
  • Consider different colours for skull?
  • Skull flag (Nandos hotness)
  • Mounting of menu: Mountboard , wood?
  • Way of applying sticker/logo on back?
  • Stamp
Action Plan : Find location - wander leeds.

I found this crit really helpful i was a little stuck on what else i could produce on the print side. This crit helped me to add extra things in. Such as , Little flags & A possible Stamp. I think these are really good elements i can add i also think i would like to add a tobasco bottle with my branding on I now will focus on this and also focus on finishing my proposed ideas & website.

Fe26 - Boards & Evaluation

FE26 BOARDS & EVALUATION

EVALUATION

When i was contacted by the client to do this brief i was really excited as i enjoy branding i haven't had that much experience in branding but I'm really interested in it and the more work i brand the better i will get. I initially made sure i knew everything the client wanted - All contact details , the company ethos the style of the design the client was wanting and colour schemes ect.

I was initially worried as the client wanted a business card for a business to do with corrosion consultancy i wasn't sure how i would design for this style of business. After some research and persistence i came up with my design. To effectively give the aesthetic of the style of company i was designing for i looked at the atom that is used for iron and worked with that for a starting point. Using this starting point i then used the name and created different ways of displaying the company name along with the logo.

I sent different variations to the client throughout the designing process until the client was happy with the final resolution. I combined the logo into different styles of promotional material such as Letter heads & business cards. This brief was a quick turn around brief although it was a little difficult at first coming up with a concept i was pleased with my final resolution and i would love to do work for this client again i felt whole brief was very professional and i am pleased with how much information i was given to begin with as it made designing more straight forward and have more direction as the client knew what he wanted.

Branding design - FE26 LIMITED

FE26-LIMITED

For the business card i began by using the colours my client wanted and placing the content in the centre of the business card. I decided to have the FE large and the rest of the text smaller.

Front&Back-
I was unsure how to make the business card relate to the subject so i researched the symbol for iron.
I drew over the symbol and began using it in my design.

I felt it gave the business card stronger branding.
I tried different types of hues and made the symbol smaller and larger.

examples-

I next experimented with different colours to achieve variation within the logo just to see how it looked.

I next found a silver spot colour for the dots within the iron symbol
variations-

Finally i managed to arrange the content on the front of the business card to how i felt it worked best.

I showed my client a few variations he told me to change the 'Corrosion consultancy' to 'protective coating specialist'. He also loved what i had designed but suggested i try using numbers around the symbol instead of dots.
example-

I asked if he wanted double sided and he said yes i showed and explained to him it would be to much so and also the numbers would be very small if they were to be printed on a business card so we decided to go with the original final.

Finals-

Responsive Collaborative - Creative Partner

CREATIVE PARTNER SHEET
I have chosen to work with Bethany Dazel for the collaborative brief.

The briefs we have chosen: Monotype

Why have you chosen to work with your creative partner? What are your aims?

I have chosen to work with beth because she is a hard worker and she always puts in a lot of effort into what she does taking attention to detail always makes her final outcomes the highest standard possible. I get on along well with beth but have not had the chance to work with her yet. I think we will work well together and achieve a really good outcome.

What are your specific areas of creative interest in these briefs?

Definitely typography and being able to apply design to many platforms.

What specific design skills do you have to offer in relation to your selected briefs? How do you intend to use them?

I tend to create concepts quickly and so i think this will help when were brainstorming initial ideas for the collaborative brief. I have skills in adobe programmes such as.. photoshop , illustrator and indesign we will use these programmes for the brief which i feel confident in.

What specific non-design skills do you have to offer in relation to your selected briefs? How do you intend to use them?
Im a good listener , assertive , punctual and reliable.

What will your specific roles be in the collaboration in relation to your briefs?

What do you think your individual responsibilities will be in relation to your briefs?

What do you think your joint responsibilities will be in relation to your briefs?
