VERNON STREET - LETTERPRESS INDUCTION

For the letter press induction we went to vernon street with a quote we had already come up with my quote was 'Popularity is for Mediocre people' we then went to the draws where the letter press pieces were kept and chose a typeface off the wall. I chose universe light extra condensed 30pt.

These was the letter press pieces for universe light condensed 30pt. They were filled with lower case letters higher case letters, middles , thicks , thins & quads also glyphs. 

I used higher case letters for mine i packed out the metal section against the ruler with my words and middles. The letters were back to front for print you could tell this by the top of the letters had a ridge in them they would be facing up. Once we had filled it in with our words and spaces we packed out the remaining space with quads and thins.

Then we put it all into a wooden block aligned to the top left then tightened the surrounding area so nothing fell out we also had to carry the wood block by the frame just incase we accidentally pushed any squares out.

Then finally the letter press.. we put our word block into the bed in the middle of the letter press and then collected a variation of papers. We then placed the paper on the top under the metal clips to hold it in place. We lifted the switch up on the side which meant the machine was ready for print and rolled it across fast holding the paper in place until we couldn't. we then switched the switch down to roll it back.

The paper stocks i used were , news print , tracing paper and glossy.

To get this affect i placed the tracing paper over news print .
