For
the letters i did the letters A,B.B,D,H,J,K,L,N,V , I Want to recreate
fonts i have found representing a few different styles:- crashed ,
crumbling , explosive , noise & maybe music.
I
started off finding a crumbling font and put it into illustrator i then
used the razor tool to recreate it and make it more detailed...
The
next letter was created the same but i wanted to make it slightly
different so added a large star to make it look like an bang. I really wanted to go for the idea of the letters been all broken and disconnected. As my word was boom i wanted to portrait the idea of the bits left of the letter after an explosion.
For a few of the letters i decided to try a different idea of music and try sound waves , i created this by using the pencil tool all over the letters in a pattern to create it. I really like how it turned out.
We had the option of black or white , i decided to use black card . I began by tracing the letters i had digitally created and then going over them with a white gel pen i liked the effect the white had on the black and it turned out well. Although the grey pencil from tracing didn't always come up on the black paper so well.
Here is an image of my 10 letters i created i think they all work together but they all are individual in there own way. My favourite design from them all would be the letter B and i love the V as well i think the simpler they are the better.
In the studio we had another crit , we got put into groups and had to show our full set to the other members of the group they then had to decide on the strongest 5 letters and we would stick them on the wall along with a post-it note of our word next to it.
We then had to sit on different tables and each person in our group took down a weak letter from the collection on the wall. We were then left with 5 letters and had to describe to the rest of the class what we liked about them. I found this crit really useful we got to see what other people did using the same word we had been given and see the variety and skills used by each individual.
