Responsive - Re-Branding 'FE26 LIMITED' - Concept

RESPONSIVE

I have used re-branding my uncles company ' Fe26 Limited' for one of my responsive briefs. He doesn't have any business card or letterhead at the moment and needs some designing. I would like to create a few variations so he can chose the most appropriate .

I need to design the business card in a professional manner so it reflects the company. The client has stated he wants the colours grey and black. Also that he would like elements of the periodic table featured on the business card so i will research thoroughly to come up with the an appropriate design.
I think with the aesthetics wanted for the business card and the chosen colours the final business card will reflect a professional feel and will work well across channels such as letterheads ect.

Responsive - Re-Branding Mobile Beauty - Concept

RESPONSIVE

I decided to use a small company i was rebranding as part of the 5 briefs we are asked to do for responsive.

The concept for the brief is to brand a HD Brow waxing company my friend Faye Irvine owns. At the moment she has very little promotional material so i wanted to create a logo and various material that could be used so her company is recognised more. As its a small company i suggested designing stickers for her car , flyers , business card ( maybe letter head ) and also appointment cards they will bring back customers.

I spoke with Faye and we wrote together considerations and mandatory requirements the points made a very important before i begin designing else it wouldn't be to the clients taste.
Im really looking forward to executing this brief before i begin designing i will research into similar beauty company designs and research into the asethics the brief states.

Responsive - Lets sign together Concept/Brief

BRITISH SIGN LANGUAGE BRIEF

I was contacted by a lady in middlesbrough to brand her sign language class ran in middlebsrough. She asked for me to come up with a name for her company. Create a logo and brand some business cards a flyer , a Facebook banner and also a price list. After meeting with her and speaking i decided to write up a brief to make sure i had all of the variables before i began designing.

Colour Choices & Typefaces

ORIGINAL COLOURS

I researched design seeds and found some Mexican /summer colours

I felt they were all to bright and didn't represent mexico enough for me and ended up going with the mexican flag colours.

FINAL CHOICES -

Studio Brief 3 - Concept

CONCEPT

For design for print & web i chosen mutton quad brief and decided i would use the word apex as it was a typographic restaurant so i felt it would be appropriate.

I knew Apex meant the highest point so i would have my restaurant on a corner. To represent a point.
I decided having a Mexican restaurant as i love Mexican food and i felt it would be a challenge. My restaurant is a tapas restaurant so i decided to add a line across the letter A for apex to represent a tapas stand with 3 tiers.

I also have named my restaurant 'Apex Mexican tapas house' a house with a point also ties in with my theme and i will focus my logo on this style.

FINAL DECISIONS

After my concept decisions i made further decisions to link my concept together properly.

DAY OF THE DEAD THEME:

As i am doing a Mexican tapas restaurant i have decided to re-create some symbols of my own that represent day of the dead theme. I think day of the dead is a huge festival in Mexican and should be enforced through my restaurant this is also a strong signifier of the style of restaurant i have incase people were confused. It needs to make sense.

COLOUR CHOICE:

I didn't want to go with the typical Mexican flag colours i experimented a lot with different colours and once i tried the actual flag colours it looked so much better some times you need to do the cliche for it work and inform. I chose to use red for my letter A for apex as red makes people feel hungry!

STOCK CHOICE: I have chosen antique white stock to print my work onto i feel this has a western Mexican feel behind it , its also the colours of sugar skulls carrying on the day of the dead theme.

Studio Brief 3 - Initial Ideas

INTIAL IDEAS

Before i began designing i decided to make a few mind maps of important information . My first mind map was the basic fundamentals and what i had come up with first.

This mind map is to list what i could possible produce my audience , and the style of restaurant.
This mind map lists considerations the food choice of my restaurant and what type of restaurant it is. eg. bespoke or not..
I also created a mind map to help me come up with the things i will proposed and web considerations.
Initial sketches:
Main logo idea:
 Other styles:

I was really stuck before i began sketching it really helps creating mind maps and initial thumbnails as things look different on paper as they do in your head. My initial idea changed a few times till i began to like it i also developed and decided to use a sugar skull pattern incorporated in my design.

Design for Print - Evaluation

DESIGN FOR PRINT EVALUATION

For design for print i decided i would create a five small booklets and a small perforated box for everything to go inside. At first i struggled with my concept and i wasn't sure what i was going to do but after a lot of research and brainstorming i finally come up with my concept. I think i did the most work getting content for this brief than the rest as i needed so much information for my booklets. I tried lots of processes so i could get a full understanding of them and a lot of research.

My five booklets contained information on the letter of the booklet i used the word print as  acronym eg. P for preparation , planning ect. I really liked my concept and felt i could get a lot of information i there using the five books. I used off white stock watercolour to create my box an for the covers of my books. I also used off white stock for the middle of my book on the pages but the stock was slightly thinner. I use bright orange stock to create belly bands for the booklets.

I tried foiling for experimentation for design for print and i was going to use black foil to create the title on my page and the numbers on my booklets but after speaking to people in the class who had tried the foil on the stock i was going to try and use that it wouldn't work very well and it would infact peel off. I think its invaluable been able to work in the studio among like minded people who always help each other out and give one and other design advice. I could of wasted a lot of time and runnier my work trying to foil. In the end because i decided to not use foil i went with vinyl which i love its sooo each to use and now i know a masking tape trick to make sure everything aligned I'm really pleased i used that.

I think my strengths through out this project would be keeping persistent with my packaging i had a ruff start attempting to create a perforated line using the laser cutter and it wasn't going to plan i was advised to hand it in then just let the tutors know how it 'would work' but i really didn't want to hand it in when i could of tried another way in resolving the problem. I decided to go to digital print re-print the work and then laser cut it again it was really tedious i was more annoyed about the time i had wasted when i could of being using it for something else never the less I'm glad i got it sorted and my packaging looked how i wanted it to in the end.

A weakness of mine throughout this project would be being to impatient our house went to a stock place and i bought some fluorescent orange card to use for my booklets as i wanted to make belly bands i began deciding i would use off white stock to go with it and i kind of built the aesthetics around the stock i had bought when i should of tried lots of different colour choices before settling for that particular one. That decision left me worrying about my work the whole way through the brief until i had actually put it together and realised that it did work well and looked how i wanted but by me being negative i was worried how it would turn it out. Ive learnt i need to try more colours and stock choices also more prototypes to give me more a variety and a choice when it comes to my finishing pieces.

Overall i loved this brief and i think my concept was strong and i put the effort in. Aesthetics wise i probably could of tried more things and i possibly would of got a higher standard finish but I've learnt a lot throughout this brief that i will apply to all my new modules and briefs.I also found it particularly beneficial trying all the processes that i tried.
