Module Evaluation

MODULE EVALUATION

1 What skills have you developed through this module and how effectively do you think you have applied them?

I think I have developed the ability to try new things. I was really interested in producing an installation although the experience was tedious and stressful It helped me to widen my ability to work with new materials. I have also developed the skills to create stronger concepts instead of going with the first idea I get. I have learnt to take a step back from my work and analyse what I am doing and where I want it to go.

2  What approaches to/methods of design production have you developed and how have they informed your design development process?

Trying new production methods such as 3d design also trying new binding methods such as wire bind. This really helped my studio brief 1 as I was unsure of the initial outcome I tested a prototype which worked really well this also prevented me from making spelling mistakes or any print errors. I have definitely used Photoshop a lot through this module I feel I am getting better at using it. Photography definitely had a big part in my design production, as I needed to practice to take the best images possible.

What strengths can you identify in your work and how have/will you capitalise on these?

Strength of mine throughout the module would be taking the time to experiment and produce mock-ups before creating the final piece. Also making sure I document my work more than I have in the past by taking more images, this has helped benefit me as I could see my project developing as It went on.

4. What weaknesses can you identify in your work and how will you address these in the future?

A weakness of mine would be not setting aside enough time as a I would of liked and I would of liked to produce more proposed deliverables to help my work be more accurate, photography took up a lot of my time. A weakness would be me not practicing enough with the tools in Photoshop as my images didn’t edit as well as I would of liked to I will definitely practice on Photoshop so I can benefit my self more in the third year when photographing other work.

5.
Identify five things that you will do differently next time and what do you expect to gain from doing these?
  • Manage my time better so I can achieve a higher quality of work in a shorter time.
  •  Proof read thoroughly to avoid spelling mistakes or any spacing.
  • Practice more photography to help me progress and achieve high quality images.
  • Make more mock-ups this will help me have more variation with my work and make it more precise.
  • Try different stocks so I am not limiting my self to certain styles of design.

Summative Evaluation

SUMMATIVE EVALUATION

I enjoyed the 505 module , especially studio brief 2. I felt the whole module was a lot more self directed than any of the other modules and it really put me in a good stead for the third year. Throughout the module it was important that i made sure i made the right design and general decisions as time wasn't as good as past modules because we had so much other work running along side. It was important for me to manage my time.

With studio brief 1 i feel as though my research really informed my final publication and the design choices that i made. I made sure i included informed design decisions throughout boards and my final work. The geometry publication was definitely one of the best pieces of work i produced after careful planning and experimentation the final piece turned out exactly how i wanted. I wouldn't of been able to see the final result until the relevant experimentation had been done , studio brief 1 is a perfect example for me of how beneficial prototypes are.

Studio brief 2 was one of the most challenging briefs i have done i had to photograph every artists name plus vinyl and the titling. I thought it was going to be a lot more straight forward than it actually was it really tested my patience at some points when the lighting wouldn't work and after one of my letters snapped i nearly gave up but i needed to take a step back and take into consideration what i could achieve in the time available. Deciding to rephotograph my work was the most beneficial thing i could of done as i achieved a lot better quality images that perviously.

The module as a whole was stressful as i tried new things but i felt i had learnt from a lot of variables throughout and theres definitely things i will change and expand on in the third year. I feel really confident in the sense i  know i am at a good level to progress on into the third year.

Other Proposed Collateral

PROPOSED COLLATERAL

When researching for this brief i looked into creative advertising and how there are special ways of showcasing work so the target audience would see it.

I felt like creating mockups of large posters would be beneficial for my exhibition.

I really like this mockup that i have produced i think its essential to have my poster advertising the pattern festival in a train station so that creatives would see it when commuting.

Large exhibition banners- This mockup is perfect as it gave me to sides to display my work on.

FURTHER PROPOSED WEBSITE/PAGES

I decided i would mockup a few pages which would be an example if i was to carry on with my exhibition and if it was to happen more than once.

I decided my exhibition would be by annually as it would happen twice a year 6 different artists/designers who specialise in pattern design would feature in it.

First page is a coming soon page statin autumn 2014 it gives the options about how to get involved and look at the most recent event which was the pattern festival not he 6.6.14.

After clicking on the get involved page it would take you to another window giving you three options to either click on the autumn exhibition which would be simply some brief information, 'vote for your favourite' this is another option i thought of if the exhibition was to ask people who are your favourite designers out of a list of people you could vote for your own the highest designers voted for would be the next 6 featured in the exhibition in the autumn. the last option is for you to pre book tickets.

I am really pleased i decided to propose other pages for my exhibition and decided what it would actually consist of it was to happen at another date. I definitely consider doing this next proposed exhibition in third year as i enjoyed this brief a lot.

GRID-

This is the grid i used

10x7

FIRST MOCKED UP PAGE-

I used the tate website to mockup my webpage for the pattern festival as it was being featured in the Tate it made sense and as my pattern festival would possibly only be by annual it made sense.

Copying there layout and there content placement i added in my own images to the whats ons section.

Menu:

Calendar:
Whats on page - i added lines to break up the content from the image-
Using an image i took from the left hand side i added it in the mocked up web page.
Finished page-

I lastly added in four small squares to demonstrate which page you were on.

SECOND PAGE-

I put the title centrally

Coming soon-

I added ' The 6 creatives & 'Buy tickets' to the page this would define which page you went to next.
I also added in some shapes to keep with the consistency of the pattern festival theme.
Finished page:
THIRD PAGE-

For this page i made sure the 6 creatives button was lighter although that was the page that had been clicked on.

Keeping with the aesthetics i added a hexagon for each of the artists names
I put the artists initials inside of the shape and there full name underneath -
Finished page :
FOURTH PAGE-

For the fourth page i made a page that you would be directed to after clicking on the specific artist.

I moved the hexagon over to the left and added a bio about them.
Next to the information i added an example of the work they produce.

I lastly added the same buttons i added on the first page so you would be able to scroll through more images and artists work.

FINAL PAGE-

The last page i designed was for the tickets of the pattern festival to be bought.

Using a photography image i took  of the tickets i placed that in the centre of the web page.

I added in the buttons for , student , professional  & General admission.
Final page-
